Many homeowners assume that if they’re renovating their home, they must install replacement windows. However, that’s not always the case—you can also choose to install new construction windows.
Even if you’re not planning to replace your siding, this option is still possible. The process typically involves:
-
Cutting back the existing siding around the window by about 3.5” or 5.5”, depending on the desired look
-
Installing a new moisture barrier, including a peel-and-stick waterproof membrane at the sill (bottom), jambs (sides), and header (top) of the window opening
This approach allows the new window to be properly sealed and integrated into the wall system.
